Usually you will give them a card as well as a gift. Amongst other things such as chocolate, giving a valentines day flower is one of the most, if not the most, popular gifts. Specifically a red rose which is widely understood to be a statement of love. Although traditionally the red rose is the perfect valentines day flower, recently men have branched out and many other flowers can be chosen to symbolize how much they care on valentines day. Such as lilies or orchids.

The Rose: The Eternal Valentine Flower

The rose is a flower that symbolizes a lot, since ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian times a red rose has stood for love, whilst a white rose means peace and a yellow or pink rose is friendship. According to the history books Cleopatra covered Mark Antony in rose petals to symbolize her love. The French Empress Josephine, wife to Emperor Napoleon was said to have the most beautiful roses in her Paris gardens.
