Useful Floral Tools To Help

Friday, January 1st, 2010

As with any creative process, florists have their own little secrets for how they make their arrangements look amazing. They have a lot of different things to manage, including flower matching, ribbons and how they display the flowers to their best advantage. If you want to join these professionals, then you will need to use the right floral supplies.

Florist’s foam, generally is the basic starter for any project. Wet foam is a spongy material designed to both hold water and keep the flowers in place, and comes in a variety of grades, each one slightly different; some are for more delicate flowers than others.

Foam is not always simple to work with. To make the piece easier, the foam should sit just higher than the vase or container the arrangement will be in. It should be wedged in tightly so it stays in place after becoming water saturated.

Foam is a little difficult to shape, so if you have an unusual container shape, you need to cut it to form. When looking at floral supplies, invest in a craft saw, which easily cuts the foam in the design of your choosing. If you cannot buy a craft saw, you can use a regular kitchen knife or some wire, but you will have to be prepared for all the foam shavings.
