Wedding Rings Start With A Promise
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009Promise rings are often seen as a separate gift from the wedding rings, although they certainly can be an important part of the romance of the occasion. Like wedding rings, promise rings are designs to show your love and your desire to be in a committed relationship with the other person.
Promise rings are not always designed the same as wedding rings, however they be very similar to traditional wedding ring designs. They come in a variety of metals including yellow gold, silver, white gold and platinum. More modern varieties of promise rings are also found in both titanium and palladium.
There is a great deal of history behind both wedding rings and promise rings. The origins of the promise ring date back to the 16th century when men, who didn’t quite have enough money to prove their worthiness to a woman’s father, would give her a promise ring in lieu of an engagement ring until he had enough funds to marry.
Unlike engagement rings and the very traditional wedding rings, promise rings can be given by the couple to each other, not just by the man to the woman. Matching promise rings between a couple are becoming very popular in many areas.
