A Thing Or Two About Portrait Photography

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

A photograph centering on a person or small group’s facial expression while they are in a still position is known as a portrait, or portraiture. The person or group’s personalities, moods and likeness emerge through. Portrait photography doesn’t always have to be just a face inside a picture; the entire body and the background can be included as well. When shooting a portrait photograph the person or group is usually looking straight into the camera.

Unlike other styles of photography, portrait photography doesn’t usually include professional models. Graduations, special events & weddings are types of occasions where portrait photography is used, and later displayed in private homes. Many are done on studio with several settings to choose from.

History of Portrait Photography

People have been using portrait photography ever since the camera was invented. Having your portrait painted was expensive and not as available. Natural light was used from an open window and people would sit against the background. With technology’s innovations photographers have the ability to take pictures with less exposure time giving them more freedom to move around & create new styles of portrait photography.

Event photography as a profession is very lucrative. Someone who shoots live events such as marriages, seminars, award ceremonies and music performances is known as an event photographer.

It is widely believed that event photography is a straightforward job, wherein all a person has to do is appear at the event and keep taking photographs every now and then. The first skill that an event photographer must possess is creativity and it should be coupled with the ability to understand the mood of an event. Doing Food Photography Differently

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Here are some simple yet effective tips for doing food photography.

Lighting the scene

Light is obviously the tool of a photographer second to the camera itself. Getting this right is always the trick with any kind of photography. With food photography though it is super important. Get it wrong and no amount of photoshop work will bring the picture to life.

Props

The right props can bring a simple food dish alive. Some food types like fast food is dull and lifeless so choosing the right props of fresh fruit, vegetables, plates, candles etc will make the dull become magic. To be s good food photographer you must have a special eye and flair for design. if you have this skill naturally you will fly.

If you do a lot of food photography then shopping at second hand markets can be a great way to build your box of props. You can pick up expensive items like large pots and dishes and vases for a few dollars and a smile. If you do not do much then you may have to go shopping for what you need and bill the client!

Actual Day Photography In Singapore

Monday, December 28th, 2009

On a wedding day the two most important people are the wedding couple. To get some excellent portraits, the photographer should seclude the wedding couple from the celebration for a while to capture the intimate moments after the ceremony. This helps the couple to get away from the delight of their wedding as well.

The portrait session will give the photographer enough time to spend with the wedding couple to capture the pictures. But this does not always happen since time is rarely a luxury anyone has; on the actual day. The time taken for pictures can well vary from an hour to no time at all. It can take up to an hour for the photographer to take the pictures.

When is the best time to take aside the bride and groom for some quality time with the photographer?

Since the couple will still look fresh, most photographers believe that the window before the reception is suitable for the portraits.

Award winning photographer Bradley Hanson says that sometimes the bride and the groom would want to start the portrait session even before the ceremony. When the bride is getting ready is when he usually starts photographing.

Therefore, a pre-wedding picture taking session is a necessity so that you are aware of what to expect from the photographer & can test his work beforehand.
